SPARTA - Henry E. Meyer, 91, of Sparta, passed away at 9:07 am, Friday, May 29, 2015 at the Randolph County Care Center in Sparta. Henry was born in Bremen, Illinois on September 28, 1923, the son of William and Clara Diercks Meyer. He married Thelma J. Pyron on April 3, 1948 in Bremen. She preceded him in death on May 24, 2006. Henry was a veteran of the Army during WWII and served in the European Theater. He was a retired Pressman Supervisor at World Color Press in Sparta. Henry was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Sparta; a lifetime member of the Kaskaskia VFW Post #3553 in Chester; the American Legion in Perryville, MO; and GCIU Local #383 in Sparta. Henry is survived by his children, Gerald L. (Gail) Meyer of Sparta, Arlen D. (Margaret) Meyer of Heerlen, Netherlands; and Steven W. (Cindy) Meyer of Bunford, TN; 5 grandchildren; and one great granddaughter. Henry was also preceded in death by his Parents; three brothers; one sister; and one grandson. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 am, Wednesday, June 3, 2015 at St. John Lutheran Church in Sparta with Rev. Bruce Cameron officiating. Burial will follow in Paradise Cemetery, Steeleville. Visitation will be at St. John Lutheran Church, Sparta, where friends may call from 6 pm until 8 pm on Tuesday and on Wednesday from 9 am until the hour of service. Memorials may be given to St. John Lutheran Church. Services are under auspices of Wilson's Funeral Home, Steeleville.
