AVA - Helen Louise Smith, 89, of Ava, passed away on Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at Carbondale Nursing and Rehab, Carbondale, Illinois. Helen Louise was born in Perry County, Illinois on November 8, 1925, the daughter of Burt S. and Evelyn Reiman Uhles. She married Robert A. Smith on August 19, 1944 at Denmark Baptist Church, Cutler, IL. He preceded her in death on October 8, 2010. Helen Louise was very active in numerous churches and was a retired school bus driver from Trico School District after 30 years. Helen Louise is survived by two daughters, Selma Lou (Dennis) Zimmerman of Ava and Verl Lynn Smith of Ava; one grandson, Jason (Virginia) Hahs; two step grandchildren, Daniel and Lori Zimmerman; two great grandchildren, Jace and Jesse Hahs; five step great grandchildren, Jacob, Trey, Kaitlyn, Kameron and Amarianna Zimmerman; and sisters-in-law, Martha Jane (Norman) Svanda of Ava, Kathryn Smith of Arizona and Augusta Smith of Peoria, IL. Helen Louise was also preceded in death by her Parents and one sister, Carrie E. Musselman. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm, Sunday, May 31, 2015 at the Wilson's Funeral Home in Ava with Rev. Clayton Yoakum officiating. Burial will follow in Ava Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be at Wilson's Funeral Home, Ava, where friends may call from 5 pm until 8 pm Saturday and on Sunday from 7:30 am until the hour of service. Memorials may be given to Teen Challenge at Cape Girardeau, MO or the Alzheimer's Association.
