Obituary
SPARTA – Helen Gillison, 99, of Sparta, passed away at 7:25 PM, Sunday, October 14, 2018, at the Coulterville Care Center.
Helen was born on August 4, 1919, in Cobden, Illinois the daughter of James and Maude (Easterly) Robertson. She married James Gillison, on March 15, 1938, in East St. Louis, Illinois, and they shared 49 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on April 14, 1987. she was a homemaker and a member of the Bethel Reformed Presbyterian Church in Sparta, and very active in the Sparta Senior Citizens.
Helen is survived by her children; James (Sharon) Gillison, of Washington, Missouri, Sharron Vaughn, of Houston, Missouri, Lester Gillison, of Sparta, Gerol (Jeff) Gerlach, of Sparta, and Paul (Cindy) Gillison, of Kendelville, Indiana, she is also survived by 10 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild.
Mrs. Gillison was preceded in death by her parents, 2 children; David Gillison, Barbara Wilson, 2 grandchildren; Jessica Gerlach, Michael Vaughn, and 3 sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 1 PM, on Wednesday, October 17, 2018, at the Bethel Reformed Presbyterian Church, in Sparta, with Rev. Alex Eppstein officiating, burial will follow in the Caledonia Cemetery, Sparta. Visitation will be held on Wednesday at the church where friends may call from 10 AM until 1 PM. Memorials may be made to the Sparta Senior Center. Wilson's Funeral Home in Steeleville is assisting the family with the arrangements.
