STEELEVILLE – Harold A. Meyer, 91, of Steeleville, passed away at 11:38 PM, Wednesday, February 15, 2017, at the St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
Harold was born on October 10, 1925, in Steeleville, the son of Fred L. and Hulda A. (Schaack) Meyer. He was in the US Army during the Korean Conflict, then he married Myrtle M. Moore on December 12, 1964, in Rockwood, and they shared 52 years of marriage. Harold is retired from the Egypitan Telephone Company in Steeleville. He was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Bremen, and a lifelong member of the Elks Club in Murphysboro, and lifelong member of the NRA. Harold was also very active in various church organizations.
Harold is survived by his wife; Myrtle Meyer, of Steeleville, 1 son; Brian (Connie) Meyer, of Oak Ridge, Missouri, 2 granddaughters; Nicolette and Amanda Meyer. He is also survived by 1 sister; Evelyn Schwartzkopf, of Baldwin, and 1 brother; Arthur Meyer, of Waterloo.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, 1 brother; Ray, and 2 sisters; Hilda Wilson, and Erna Ernsting.
Memorial services will be held at 2 PM, Sunday, February 19, 2017, at the Wilson's Funeral Home in Steeleville, with Rev. Dennis Scoville officiating, interment will be private at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday at the funeral home where friends may call from 1 to 2 PM. Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, Bremen.
