SPARTA – Harold Lee Bierman, 88, of Sparta passed away at 6:37 AM, Tuesday, January 14, 2020 at the Red Bud Regional Care Center.
Harold was born on August 13, 1931, in Welge, the son of William and Minnie (Bodeker) Bierman. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, he then married Lorna M. Oetting on June 1, 1957, at the St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Evansville, then she preceded him in death on July 24, 2007. Harold then married Melba Runge on February 21, 2009 at the St. John's Lutheran Church. Bremen. Harold was retired from the Menard Correctional Center in Chester, and was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church, Bremen, the Kaskaskia VFW Post #3553, Chester, and the AFSCME Local #31.
Harold is survived by his wife; Melba Bierman, of Sparta, daughter; Shelby Lee (Eric) Asselmeier, of Sparta, granddaughter; Erica Leeann (Greg Adams) Asselmeier, of Sparta, step daughter; Barbara (Michael) Mollet, of Prairie duRocher, god child; Nancy Bierman Wilds, of Honolulu Hawaii, step grandchildren; Amie Bockhorn, Bradley Mollet, Alex Mollet, step great grandchildren; Kadence Bockhorn, Peyton Bockhorn, Aubrianna Bockhorn, Wayde Mollet, Macie Ahring, Alana Mollet, Annah Ahring. He is also survived by a brother; Orville William Bierman, of Jacksonville, Arkansas, sister-in-law; Carolyn (Randall) Voss, of Red Bud.
Mr. Bierman was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters; Margaret Schwenke, Elda Kloth, 3 brothers; Amos Bierman, Raymond Bierman, Wilbert Bierman.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, January 18, 2020, at the St. John's Lutheran Church, Bremen, with Rev. Edwin H. Reuter officiating, burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday evening at the Wilson's Funeral Home in Steeleville where friends may call from 5 to 8 PM, and then on Saturday from 7:30 until 9 AM and from 10 to 11 AM at the church. Memorials may be made to the St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery Fund, or the Trico Band Booster.
