Obituary

CUTLER, Guy Junior Martin, 84, of Ellington, MO, formerly of Cutler, IL, departed this life at 10:30 P.M. Wednesday, July 07, 2010, at Poplar Bluff Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, MO, having attained the age of 84 years and two months. Guy was born May 07, 1926 in Cutler, Illinois the son of the late Guy Edward Martin and Violet (Ward) Martin. On December 1, 1956 in St. Louis, Missouri, Guy was united in marriage to June Tripp and to this loving union two children were born. June preceded him in death on March 10, 1997. Guy was a veteran of World War II, Pacific Campaign, serving in the US Navy Seabees on Okinawa. He belonged to the Disabled American Veterans, and was a lifetime member of Ellington VFW. In Guys younger days he enjoyed rabbit and bird hunting in Southern Illinois. Later in life, Guy loved dancing, cheering for the Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals, controlling the remote in the TV room at the VA, and debating controversial topics with others. Guy is survived by his son, David Martin and wife Laurie of Webb Creek, MO; one step daughter, Marsha Leach of St. Louis, MO; four grandchildren, Trey Spiller of St. Louis, MO, Dylan, Taylor and Brycen Martin all of Webb Creek, MO; one brother-in-law, Ronald Day of Foristell, MO; two sisters-in-law, Glenda Martin of Marissa, IL, Barbara Martin of Percy, IL; his aunt, Paula Martin of Champaign, IL; and his extended family at the Veterans Hospital in Poplar Bluff, MO. Guy will be deeply missed by his family and a host of friends who will mourn his passing. Guy was preceded in death by his parents, Guy and Violet Martin; his wife, June Tripp Martin; his daughter, Guyla Jean Martin; and three brothers, Jerry, Eddie and Delbert Martin. Graveside services will be held Saturday, July 10, 2010 at 3:30 P.M. at Cutler Cemetery in Cutler, IL, with burial following. Visitation will be held at Wilson's Funeral Home, Steeleville on Saturday from 11 am until 3 pm.
