STEELEVILLE - Glenn D. Brandhorst, 88, of Alamo, Texas, formerly of Steeleville, passed away at the McAllen Medical Center on Saturday, September 21, 2013. Glen was born in rural Campbell Hill, IL on September 1, 1925, the son of Fred and Mona Bergfeld. He married Neva Hanger on February 15, 1947, she preceded him in death on December 16, 1955. He then married Gloria Young on March 11, 1961 in Cutler, IL. Glen was veteran of the US Navy during WWII. He was a member of the Anchor Bible Baptist Church in Pharr, TX; Alma Lodge #497 A.F. & A.M., Steeleville, U.M.W. of A Local #1392, and B.B.K. American Legion Post #480, Steeleville. He was a retired Coal Miner from Captain mine. Glen is survived by his wife, Gloria Brandhorst of Alamo, TX; four children, Brenda (Wayne) Sullivan of Sparta, Michael (DeEtte) Brandhorst of Beckley, WV, Connie Lynn (Paul) Dolce of Steeleville and Larry (Connie Marie) Brandhorst of Dupo, IL; 7 grandchildren; 5 step grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 9 step great grandchildren; and one sister, Nancy Ann (Bob) Hayes of Cantrell, IL. Glen was preceded in death by his Parents; one daughter, Glenna Renea Brandhorst; and three brothers, Wayne Bruce "Doodle" Bergfeld, Evertte George "Jake" Bergfeld, and Oren James "Jimmie" Bergfeld. Funeral service will be held on Friday, September 27, 2013 at 11:00 am at Wilson's Funeral Home in Steeleville with Rev. Tim McIntyre officiating. Burial will follow in Cutler Cemetery, Cutler, Illinois. Visitation will be at Wilson's Funeral Home, Steeleville, where friends may call from 6 to 8 m Thursday with an American Legion service at 8 pm and on Friday from 7:30 until the hour of service. Memorials may be given to Anchor Bible Baptist Building Fund.
