Obituary

STEELEVILLE - Gilbert "Gib" Roehrkasse, 76, of Steeleville passed away at 12:15 am, Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis. He was born October 4, 1935 in rural Red Bud, Illinois the son of Elmer and Anna Voss Roehrkasse. Gib married Emilie Kay Uchtman on December 27, 1958 in Bremen. He was a lifelong farmer and worked as a laborer of Laborers Local 459 in Belleville. Gib had also worked at the Singer Furnace Company in Red Bud. He served in the Army Reserves and was a lifelong member of the BBK American Legion Post #480 in Steeleville. He was of the Christian faith. Gib enjoyed spending the winters in Alamo Palms RV Park. He was also a Bremen Democrat Precinct Committeeman for 20 years and a member of the Pierre Menard Democrat Club. Gib is survived by his wife, Emilie Kay Roehrkasse of Bremen, IL; two sons, Mark Gilbert (Melinda) Roehrkasse of Chester and Glen Ray (Gabi) Roehrkasse of Fountain, CO; six grandchildren, Chad Ray (Fiancee Hollie Stowell) Roehrkasse, Casey Jean Roehrkasse, Kathleen Elizabeth Barry, David Mark Roehrkasse, Adam Hargis and Steve Gandara; three great grandchildren, Dylan Ray Roehrkasse, Deven Michael Roehrkasse and Tyler Hargis; one sister, Patricia Ling (Jim) Erickson of St. Louis, MO; one sister-in-law, Alma Fay Uchtman (Leonard) Lukasik of Castle Rock, CO; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; step father, Russell Ling; two grandchildren, Cory Hargis and Marco Gandara; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Merrell and Lucille Uchtman. Funeral service will be held Saturday, April 21, 2012 at 10:00 am at Grace Church Ministries in Chester with Pastor Ronald Coleman officiating. Burial will follow in Paradise Cemetery in rural Steeleville. Visitation will be held Friday from 5 to 8 pm at Wilson's Funeral Home in Steeleville with American Legion services at 7:30 pm and on Saturday from 7:30 am until 8:00 am then from 9 to 10 am at the church. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society or the Grace Church Children's Ministries.
