PERCY, Gilbert Wayne Coleman, 87, of Percy, passed away at 1:37 PM Wednesday, November 7, 2012, at Memorial Hospital in Chester, Illinois. He was born March 21, 1925 in Herrin, Illinois, the son of Griff and Pearl (Walker) Coleman. Wayne was married to Margaret Krenzel. She passed away on February 13, 2000. He was retired from Captain Mines as a Heavy Equipment Operator. Wayne served in the US. Army in WW II and earned the Bronze Star with 3 overseas bars. He was a member of Percy 1st Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Paul Stout American Legion Post #127 in Murphysboro and the UMWA Local 7333. Wayne is survived by his 2 daughters: Sheila (Tom) Strong, Greenville, IL, Pamela (Clay) Fuhrhop, Ava, IL; 5 Grandchildren: Todd (Ami) Strong, Tammy (Brandon) Bell, Candice (Clint) Cotter, Jenna (Jon) Parsons and Kayla Fuhrhop; 8 Great Grandchildren: Tyler Larson, Reece Bell, Luke Bell, Peyton Strong, Cassie Cotter, Grant Welten, Aubrey Cotter and Jesse Barge; 2 brothers: Gene Coleman and Rayburn Coleman both of Percy; 3 sisters: Retha Jones and Phyllis Brant both of Chester and Kay Todaro of St. Louis, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 son, Tim Coleman, 1 Grandson Timothy Strong and 1 brother Laverne Coleman of Mascoutah. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 10, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Wilson's Funeral Home Percy, Illinois with the Rev. Terry Jackson officiating. Burial will follow at Percy Village Cemetery. Visitation will be at Wilson's Funeral Home in Percy on Friday November 9th from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM The preferred form of remembrance is contributions to Percy 1st Baptist Church or Relay for Life at Chester Hospital.
