MURPHYSBORO – George William Throop, 87, of Murphysboro, passed away at 9:20 pm, Thursday, February 14, 2019 at the Independence Care Center in Perryville, Missouri.

George was born in Ava, Illinois, on September 4, 1931, the son of Jess and Mary Brown Throop. He married Marybelle Steele. George was retired from Auto Parts Sales.

George is survived by his wife, Marybelle Throop of Murphysboro; sons, David (Rita) Throop of Chester and Tom (Cookie) Throop of Ava; daughter, Linda (Mike) Fortner of Chester; 14 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and brothers, John Throop of Willisville, Les Throop of Freeburg, IL and Albert Throop of Nashville, TN.

George was preceded in death by his Parents; two sons, Mike and Gary; one great grandchild; one brother, Raymond and one sister, Lawanda Cross.

Funeral service will be held at 2 pm Monday, February 18, 2019 at Wilson's Funeral Home, Ava, with Rev. Charles Allen officiating. Burial will follow in Ava Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be at Wilson's Funeral Home, Ava, on Monday from Noon until 2 pm. Memorials may be given to Donor's Choice.
