AVA – Genice Dagner, 91, of Ava, passed away at 9:53 pm, Saturday, July 6, 2019, at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale.

Genice was born in Ava, Illinois, on May 10, 1928, the daughter of the late John and Rosalee Johnson Leonard.  She married Henry L. Dagner on January 19, 1948 at Piggott, Arkansas.  He preceded her in death on September 7, 1996.  Genice was a Homemaker and a member of Ava Missionary Baptist Church.  She was known as Granny to most everyone who knew her.  She cared for, loved and inspired so many.  She will be missed dearly.

Genice is survived by one son, Gary Wayne (Carol) Dagner of Murphysboro; one daughter, Dorothy (Larry Tilley) Koch of Ava; daughter-in-law, Rita Dagner of Murphysboro; son-in-law, Harvey Gerler of Ava; 13 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Genice was also preceded in death by her Parents; two daughters, Ruth Mae Dagner and Doris Gerler; one son, Ray Dagner; son-in-law, Ron Koch; three brothers; and six sisters.

Graveside service will be held at 10:00 am, Tuesday, July 9, 2019, at Ava Evergreen Cemetery with Rev. Charles Allen officiating.  Everyone is asked to meet at the cemetery.  Memorials may be given to Ava Missionary Baptist Church.
