CHESTER – Gary O'Daniel, 77, passed away Wednesday, April 22, 2026, in Chester, Illinois.

Gary was born October 27, 1948, in Chester, to Ronald "Bidd" and Ruby Gilbreath O'Daniel.

Mr. O'Daniel, a U.S. Navy veteran, was a retired repairman at the Grand Tower CIPS/Ameren power plant. He also raised sheep and goats while tending to the family farm. He enjoyed a wide range of outdoor pursuits, including riding motorcycles, antique tractor pulls, and varmint hunting.

Survivors include his sister, Judy Rees; daughters, Kim (Jeff) Schofield, Dana (Jim) Williams, and Cassandra Mehrer; sons, Whitney (Lisa) O'Daniel and Todd (Sheri) Wilburn; grandchildren, Samantha (Ezra) Kessel, Avri O'Daniel, Jonha Schofield, Josie Schofield, and Aidyn O'Daniel; great-grandchildren, Jacob Martin and Lucas Martin; niece, Keri (Doug) Hamilton; great-nephew, Brantley; great-niece, Kenzie; cousins, James Downen, Steven (Jeannie) O'Daniel, and Michael (Joanne) O'Daniel; and many friends and neighbors.

He was preceded in death by his beloved partner of over twenty-one years, Joyce Mehrer; his parents, Ronald "Bidd" and Ruby O'Daniel; his uncles, Richard "Peanut" O'Daniel, William "Jim" O'Daniel, and George "Jack" O'Daniel; and his aunts, Bonnie Leinicke and Shirley O'Daniel.

It was Gary's wish to be cremated, with no visitation or services to be held.
