AVA – Gaila J. Neathery, 72, passed away on Thursday, September 19, 2024, at her home in Ava, Illinois

Gaila was born on January 16, 1952, in Murphysboro, IL, the daughter of Gale F. and Inez (Singleton) Schuetz. She married Darrell Neathery in Grand Tower, IL, on September 1, 1973. She was a retired Records Keeper at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, IL, and a member of Denmark Baptist Church, Cutler, IL.

Gaila is survived by her husband, Darrell Neathery of Ava, IL, her children: Doug (Becky) Neathery of Hanceville, AL, Amanda (Anthony) Baugher of Collinsville, IL; her bonus daughter, Billie Cole of Murphysboro, IL, her grandchildren: Addison and Malachi Neathery, Avery Baugher, Carson Davis; her sister, Susie Grimes of Grand Tower, IL, and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.

Gaila was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, Mary O'Cull.

Funeral services will be on Monday, September 23, 2024, at 10:00 am, at Denmark Baptist Church, Cutler, IL, with Pastor Marty DeRoche officiating. Burial to follow at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park, Murphysboro, IL. Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 22, 2024, at Denmark Baptist Church, where friends may call from 6:00 – 8:00 pm, and then on Monday, 9:00 till time of service.
