CHESTER – Frank E. Lailer, 83, of Chester, Illinois, passed away on Monday, July 13, 2026, at VA Medical Center, Marion, Illinois.

Frank was born on December 23, 1942, in Damariscotta, ME, to Frank A. and Marian L. (Smith) Lailer, Jr. He married Darlene S. Hartman on September 24, 1976, in Chester, IL. She preceded him in death on July 10, 2012. Frank was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, having served from 1960 to 1963. He was a retired engineer on the river. Frank was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Chester, IL, American Legion, Chester, IL and a Life Member of Disabled American Veterans Chapter 69, Murphysboro, IL.

Frank is survived by his 5 Children: Michael (Rhonda) Lailer of Neely Landing, MO, Anthony (Brenda) Lailer of Perryville, MO, Lisa (Stephen) Meade of Gorham, IL, Cynthia Albert of Chester, IL, and Lorena Pfaff of Steeleville, IL; his 15 Grandchildren and 20 Great Grandchildren.

Frank was also preceded in death by his Parents, 2 Sisters, 1 Brother and 2 Grandsons.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, 10:30 am, at Jefferson Barrack National Cemetery, St. Louis, MO. Burial to follow. Memorials may be given to Disabled American Veterans, and can be mailed to Wilson’s Funeral Home, P.O. Box 217, Steeleville, IL 62288.
