AVA - Evert R. Alms, 71, of Ava, passed away on Friday, March 28, 2014, at the St. Joseph Memorial Hospital in Murphysboro, Illinois. Evert was born in Campbell Hill, Illinois on July 4, 1942, the son of Herman and Lydia Gerlach Alms. He was a retired heavy equipment operator from Kinkaid Stone Co., Ava, Illinois. He was a US Army veteran having served from March of 1964 until September of 1965. He was a member of the St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Campbell Hill and the Paul Stout American Legion Post #127, Murphysboro, Illinois. Evert is survived by his son, Bruce (Beverly) A. Alms of Carbondale, IL; and two grandchildren, Brice Alms and Destiny Alms. Evert was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Brian Alms; and one brother, Delbert Alms. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm, Monday, March 31, 2014 at the St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Campbell Hill with Rev. Matt Kamprath officiating. Burial will follow in St. Luke's Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be at St. Luke's Lutheran Church on Monday from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm. Service are under auspices of Wilson's Funeral Home, Ava. Memorials may be given to St. Luke's Lutheran Church.
