Obituary

SPARTA – Everett "Carl" Beattie, 88, of Sparta, passed away at 1:40 pm, Monday, March 4, 2019 at Sparta Community Hospital in Sparta, Illinois.

Everett was born in Sparta, on July 11, 1930, the son of Everett and Mae Benjamin Beattie. He married Iva Jean Stork on August 17, 1957 at St. Pius, Walsh, IL. Carl was a retired Postman at Sparta Post Office. He was a US Air Force veteran having served during the Korean Conflict. He served from January of 1951 until January of 1955. Carl was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Sparta; Knights of Columbus Our Lady of Lourdes Council #6577, Sparta; and American Legion Post #396, Sparta. His interest was watching Chicago Bears Football, St. Louis Cardinals and Illini Sports. He never missed a sporting event.

Carl was survived by his wife, Iva Jean Beattie of Sparta; children, Carla (Curt) Campbell of Washington, MO, Brian (Kendra) Beattie of Steeleville, Kim (Bruce) Harmsen of Steeleville, Larry (Suzanne) Beattie of Sparta; grandchildren, Justin (Marian) Cano, Jason Cano, Krystle (Shawn) McGruder, Leah Beattie (Randy Hammonds), Tim (Janae) Yates, Hillary Heaton, Kenny Heaton, Adrian Harmsen, Hunter Beattie, Hayden Beattie and Olivia Beattie; great grandchildren, Chloe Yates, Grace Cronin, Madi Yates, Lucy Yates, Rynlee Beattie and Hunter McGruder; in-laws, Bonita (Kenny) Jacoby of Percy, Gary (Nancy) Stork of Sparta, Jack (Nan) Stork of Jerseyville, IL, and Darla (Tom) Loos of Steeleville; numerous nieces and nephews.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Mae Beattie; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Harold and Elizabeth Stork; sister, Vera McDonald and Mel McDonald; and granddaughter, Ashley Campbell.

Funeral mass will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, March 8, 2019 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Sparta, with Father Vincent Mukasa officiating.   Burial will follow at Caledonia Cemetery, Sparta. Visitation will be at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church on Thursday from 5 pm until 8 pm and on Friday from 8 am until 10 am. The preferred form of remembrance are memorials to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church – Lift Project, St. Joseph's Indian School or the Brock Family.
