MURPHYSBORO – Esther Beckman, 92, of Waterloo formerly of Murphysboro, passed away at 2:42 PM, Sunday, February 12, 2017, at the Columbia Rehab and Nursing Center, in Columbia, Illinois.
Esther was born on May 16, 1924, in Wine Hill, the daughter of Adolph and Emma (Eggers) Meyerhoff. She married Roy E. Beckman on May 5, 1951, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Wine Hill, and they shared 59 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on May 31, 2010. Esther was a homemaker, she was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church West Point, Immanuel Lutheran Church Ladies Aid, American Legion Auxiliary in Murphysboro, and a member of the VFW Auxiliary in Murphysboro.
Esther is survived by 3 daughters; Linda Sue (Curt) Wittbracht, of Waterloo, Beverly Ann (David) Banks, of Athens, Illinois, and Nancy Ellen (Jim) Vaughn, of Tuscon, Arizona. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren.
Esther was preceded in death by her parents, 1 infant brother, and 3 brothers; Alfred, Raymond, and Albert, and 4 sisters; Ruby Meyerhoff, Verna Golding, Edna Wettig, and Irene Steffens.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Thursday, February 16, 2017, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church West Point, with Rev. Sean Smith officiating, burial will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening at the Wilson's Funeral Home in Steeleville, where friends may call from 5 to 7 PM, and then on Thursday from 7:30 to 9 AM and from 10 to 11 AM at the church. Memorials may be made to the Cemetery Fund and Maintenance Fund at the Church.
