STEELEVILLE – Elmer H. Opperman, 88, of Steeleville, passed away on Thursday, September 24, 2020, at Independence Care Center in Perryville, Missouri.
Elmer was born in Welge, Illinois, on November 8, 1931, the son of Herman and Lydia Ruback Opperman. Elmer was an Army Veteran of Korea. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Steeleville, Illinois. Elmer retired f rom Gilster Mary Lee in Steeleville, Illinois and was a member of BBK American Legion Post #480 in Steeleville, Illinois
Elmer is survived by his nephew, Roy (Rhonda) Brockmeyer of Chester, Illinois. Three nieces; Jane (Tim) Lochhead of Chester, Illinois, Donna (Roger) Sprengel of Belleville, Illinois and Gina Fey of Chester, Illinois. Sister, Irma Fey of Chester, Illinois and several great nieces and nephews.
Elmer was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, September 26, 2020, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church (Wine Hill), Steeleville, with Reverend Sean Smith officiating. Burial will follow at St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Steeleville. Visitation will be held from 10:00 – 11:00am at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Steeleville. Memorials may be given to St. Paul's Lutheran Church. By executive order, face masks are required, and social distancing guidelines must be followed.
