Obituary

AVA - Ellen Marie Bartlett Newton, 91, formerly of Washington Park, went to be with the Lord at 2:40 pm on Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Ellen was born November 25, 1921 in East St. Louis, IL, the daughter of Charles "Spider" and Marie Spain Bartlett. She married the love of her life, Wesley Newton, on October 25, 1939 in Perryville, MO. He preceded her in death on October 23, 2010, after 71 years of marriage. She was a member of the Ava Assembly of God Church, Ava. Ellen was a homemaker. She enjoyed playing BINGO, collecting pigs and spending time with her family. A special thanks to Hospice and the Rev. Wilson and Barbara McWherter. Ellen is survived by two sons, Gilbert Newton of Ava and Gerald (Theresa) Newton of Ava; one daughter, Sandra (Dennis) Beshears of Ava; one daughter-in-law, Rena Newton of Ava; grandchildren, Renee' (Olin) Young, Rick (Melanie) Newton, Sonny (Deana) Newton, Brian Newton, Jimmy (Rhonda) Newton, Jeremy Newton, Buddy (Debbie) Newton, Deon (Lori) Newton, Tina (Carl) Kilpatrick, Karen (Shaun) Reiman, Kim Moore, Steve (Traci) Newton, Denny (Jeannie) Beshears, DeAnna (Marc) Weinhoffer, Bobby Newton, Jeff (Jenny) Newton, Cindy Blankenship, Debbie O'Neal, Sharon Williams, Kevin Blankenship; one brother, Frank (Nancy) Bartlett of Hetlick, IL; one sister, Peggy (Ernie) Rhyne of Cahokia, IL; one sister-in-law, Anna Newton of Murphysboro, IL; 53 great grandchildren; 28 great great grandchildren; and a special Hospice Caregiver, Marie. Ellen was also preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Agnes Jacobs, and Dodie Rhyne, Francis King; two brothers, Charles Bartlett, Jr. and Jack Bartlett; and two sons, Charles Newton and Jack Newton. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, March 1, 2013 at Wilson's Funeral Home, Ava, with Rev. Wilson E. and Barbara McWherter officiating. Burial will follow in Ava Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be at Wilson's Funeral Home, Ava, where friends may call from 5 to 8 pm Thursday and on Friday from 7:30 am until the hour of service. Memorials may be given to a Love Fund for the Family.
