MURPHYSBORO - Edwina Sue Whitler, 50, of Murphysboro, passed away 11:20 am, Wednesday, June 3, 2015 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO. Edwina was born in Springfield, IL on September 18, 1964, the daughter of Elmer and Mary Kay Brown Whitler. She was a Lab Manager and part time Instructor in of Cosmetology at John A. Logan College and she owned her own Salon. Edwina attended church regularly and believed faithfully. She was a member of the Illinois Education Association, the NRA, HOG (Harley Owners Group) and was very active in the John A. Logan College Cosmetology Club. Edwina is survived by her children, Jessica (John) Welten of Murphysboro, Gary (Jamie) Elbrecht of Holly Ridge, NC, Joe (Christina) Elbrecht of Murphysboro; grandchildren: Grant, Blake, Avery, Brookelynn and Raelyn; and sisters, Claudia Bradley of Springfield, Loretta Novottney of Winston Salem, NC, Mary Jane Fisher of Oceanside, CA, Peggy Cowden of Springfield, and Shirley Alton of Phoenix, AZ. Edwina was preceded in death by her Parents. Memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, June 6, 2015 at the Wilson's Funeral Home in Ava, with Rev. Charles Allen officiating. Burial will be at a later date at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park in Murphysboro. Visitation will be at Wilson's Funeral Home, Ava, where friends may call from Noon until 2 pm. Memorials may be given to Siteman Cancer Center.
