STEELEVILLE – Earl H. Sternberg, 89, of Steeleville passed away at 6:15 PM, Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at the Memorial Hospital in Chester.

Earl was born on January 23, 1927, in Bernheimer, Missouri, the son of Fred and Alice (Collins) Sternberg. He married Vera D. Deppe, on July 2, 1949, in Sparta, and they shared 67 years of marriage. Earl was in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a retired electrician, and a member of the IBEW Local 702 of West Frankfort, Illinois.

Earl is survived by his wife; Vera, of Steeleville, 7 children; Kenneth Earl (Shannon) Sternberg, of Mauldin, SC, Michael Eugene (Mary) Sternberg, of Steeleville, Barbara Jean (Brad) Mueller, of Chester, Phyllis Carol (Ray) Cole, of Prairie Du Rocher, Fred Lee (friend Kathy) Sternberg, of Rowlet, TX, Gertrude Ellen (Barry) Bodenbach, of Alton, IL, and Joyce Ann Buskohl, of Ellis Grove, he is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 6 step grandchildren.

Earl was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother, and 3 sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon, Saturday, January 21, 2017 at the Steeleville Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Scott Fosie, and Rev. Richard A. Newcom officiating, and burial will follow at Percy Village Cemetery, Percy. Visitation will be held on Friday evening at the church where friends may call from 6 to 8 PM, and then on Saturday from 9 to 12 Noon. Memorials may be made to the Handicap Van, Steeleville Baptist Church, OPTION NOW, Godfrey, IL, or IMPACT, Sparta, IL. Wilson's Funeral Home in Steeleville is entrusted with the arrangements.
