AVA – Duffy E. McBride, 81, passed away on Monday, June 12, 2023, at Good Samaritan Hospital, Mt. Vernon, IL.
Duffy was born on February 4, 1942, the son of Benjamin F. and Cosa (Duff) McBride. He was a retired truck driver and an avid hunter, having driven and walked millions of miles in his lifetime. Duffy loved his family, his mules: Jake & Bonnie; dancing, the Chicago Cubs, and his beloved coon dog, Cindy. He passed on the way he lived his life, doing what he wanted!
Duffy was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Gallatin, TN, 2004 Illinois Coon Hunters Hall of Fame, 1994 Illinois State Champion Dog, Inducted into National Coon Hunters Association with 9 Mile Duffy, Lifetime Member North America Hunt Club, President of Oraville Coon Club for 21 years, Pro-Hound Kennel Club, Evansville, IN, Eagles - Carbondale, IL, Elks – Murphysboro, IL, and the Ava Outlaw Saddle Club.
Duffy is survived by his daughter and caretaker, Sandy McBride-Thornton of Ava, IL, his grandsons, that he was so proud of: Austin McBride, Hunter Thornton, and Brandyn (Mallorie) Thornton; his great grandsons, whom he fought so hard to meet: Weston Allen-Michael Thornton; his brother, Danny McBride of Murphysboro, IL, his sister, Louise McGuire of Malta, IL, numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and his beloved dog, Bobo.
Duffy was preceded in death by his parents, son, Kenneth, mother of his children, Doris, two brothers: Francis Clifton McBride and Ivan McBride; five sisters: Julia Pugh, Virginia Doetch, Lucille Worthen, Helen VahHoy, and Wilma Dewey.
Duffy's wishes were for cremation and a Memorial Service will be held at a later date. The family would like to thank the hospitals and everyone who helped and prayed for Duffy.
