CUTLER – Douglas W. Higgerson, 82, of Cutler, passed away Monday, July 5, 2021, in Cutler, Illinois.
Doug was born August 12, 1938, in Cutler, IL, to Wayne and Helen Newton Higgerson. He married Peggy Mikel on December 31, 1979, in Eden, Illinois. Doug was an avid businessman; he was the owner of Rednour Steel Erectors in Cutler since 1962 and was a cattle farmer. He also owned R&H Construction, which built several coal mines in this area. He was a very competitive, hardworking, and dedicated man. He enjoyed hunting with coon and beagle dogs. He owned the 1981 World Championship Beagle dog "Blurock Hobo". He raised many championship dogs at Gaum Creek Kennels. Peggy and Doug also owned racehorses and spent many evenings at the races together. Doug worked very hard and accomplished anything he put his mind to. His passion and drive for success will be greatly missed. We hope to continue to make him and his legacy proud. Doug served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Beagle Club, Coon Club, and was a Board Member of Southern Illinois Erectors Association.
Doug is survived by his wife, Peggy Higgerson of Cutler, his children; Barbara (Will) Higgerson-Harmsen of Steeleville, Crystal (Van) Mueller of Chester, Steve (Samia) Higgerson of Chester, Ronnie (Kim) Higgerson of Cutler, Grandchildren; Erica (Lanny) Eggemeyer, Ronnie Higgerson, Adrian Harmsen, Shea (Jacob) Atchison, Paige (Bryan) Rodewald, Samuel Higgerson, Averi Mueller and Brooke Higgerson, Great Grandchildren; Rylie Conley, Brooklyn, Finley, and Beau Eggemeyer, Zoe and Vance Atchison, Aubrie and Cruz Rodewald. He is also survived by his siblings, Joy (John) Roberts of Campbell Hill, Donna (Jerry) Goodrich of TN, and many nieces and nephews.
Doug is preceded in death by his Parents and Granddaughter, Angel Higgerson.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, July 10, 2021, at Wilson's Funeral Home, Steeleville, with Reverend Ed Spiller officiating. Burial to follow at Cutler Cemetery, Cutler. Friends may call 10-2 pm, Saturday. Memorials may be given to St. Jude's Children's Hospital and can be mailed to Wilson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 217, Steeleville, IL 62288.
