SPARTA – Dorothy L. Douglas, 89, formerly of Coulterville, IL, passed away on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at Freeburg Care Center, Freeburg, Illinois.
Dorothy was born on October 6, 1935, in Marissa, IL, the daughter of Roland and Iva (nee, Williams) Schenke-Gillespie. She married James E. Douglas on June 28, 1953, in Okawville, IL. He preceded her in death on September 29, 2016. Dorothy was a Homemaker and a Civil Service Employee at Scott Air Force Base, working in communications for 32 years. Dorothy was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses, Sparta, IL. She enjoyed camping and spending time with her family and her grandchildren.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Donna Wilkerson of Marissa, IL, her daughters-in-law: Rona Douglas of Steeleville, IL, Rosemary Douglas of Kansas, Melanie Kellerman of Tamaroa, IL; her grandchildren: Jeffery Gimber, Kathy (Christopher) Patterson, Karen (Brady) Baker, Jamie (Jimmy) Hamon, Whitney (Brock) Schoenbeck, Ryan Douglas, Emily Wilkerson, Sheri Douglas; her great grandchildren: Kamryn Patterson, Zachary Patterson, Cadin (Shelby) Patterson, Emilee (Johnathon) Kumke, Siobhan Baker, Mavis Baker, Ian Hudson, Alyssa (Chris) Hudson, Kaden Schoenbeck, Oliver Schoenbeck; her great great grandchildren: James Patterson and due to be born in August 2025, Emilia Hudson; her sister, Lela (Randy) Neisler of Tallahassee, FL, her sisters-in-law: Genevieve Gillespie of Coulterville, IL, Mary Ann Schenke of Tampa, FL; her niece, Tammy (Chris) Krause and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was also preceded in death by her Parents, her stepfather, Harvey Gillespie, her sons, Paul and James, Sr, her grandson, James, Jr, her brothers: Alan, Ralph Schenke, Harvey Gillespie Jr, and her sister, Shirley Schenke.
Graveside services will be held Friday, April 18, 2025, at 2:00 pm, at Paradise Cemetery, Steeleville, IL, with Mark Hanft officiating. Visitation will be on Friday morning, where friends may call from 11:00 to 1:30 pm at Wilson's Funeral Home, Steeleville, IL. Memorials may be given to Shriners Children's Hospital or St. Jude Children's Hospital and can be mailed to Wilson's Funeral Home, P.O. Box 217, Steeleville, IL 62288.
