STEELEVILLE – Dorothy "Dot" L. Bockhorn, 90, of Steeleville, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at Sparta Community Hospital, Sparta, IL. Dot was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Vilas, sister, Maxine, and husband, Kenneth.
The youngest of her siblings, Dorothy was born in Percy, Illinois, on August 21, 1934, to Carl and Wilhelmina (Huch) Waltemate. She met Kenneth "Kenny" L. Bockhorn at a dance on New Year's Eve and they wed on July 9, 1955, remaining married until his passing in 2021. During their 66 years together, Kenny and Dot shared many adventures, including visits to Hawaii, Australia, and the Monaco Grand Prix.
Dot was always happy to lend a helping hand to her community, she proudly volunteered her time with several local organizations and was a life-long member of Peace Lutheran Church of Steeleville, IL. On special occasions, she was known to treat her loved ones to baked goods, especially her signature "Red Cake", which has now become a treasured family recipe. She loved finding reasons to spend time outside and was seldom found without a crossword puzzle in hand.
Dot will be forever remembered by her many friends and her children; Phillip (Vanessa) Bockhorn of Lake Orion, MI, David (Margaret) Bockhorn of Las Vegas, NV, and Susan (Mike) Dierks of Steeleville, IL, as well as her five grandchildren; Zachary & Eli Dierks, Haley & Casey (Carlos) Bockhorn and Palmer McGuire.
A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, March 15, 2025, at Peace Lutheran Church in Steeleville, IL with Pastor Ken Tegtmeier and Parrish Ministry Assistant Julie Posth officiating. Friends may call from 12:30 p.m. until the hour of service. Interment to follow at Peace Lutheran Cemetery, Steeleville, IL.
Memorials in celebration of Dot's life, well lived and well loved, may be given to Peace Lutheran Church, Steeleville, IL and can be mailed to Wilson's Funeral Home, P.O. Box 217, Steeleville, IL 62288.
