SPARTA – Doris Creason Arnold, 84, went home to be with the Lord on March 18, 2025. Doris was a resident at Oak hill Nursing Home in Waterloo, IL, for the past two years. Before that she was a resident at Red Bud Regional Care Center since 2017, when her husband, Robert, passed away.
Doris was born on April 22, 1940, in Aholt, MO, to Kathryn and Ben Creason. She married Robert Arnold in Glasgow, MO, on May 25, 1958. The Arnolds welcomed daughters Karla and Sheila in 1961 and 1963 respectively. In 1965, they moved from Columbia, MO, to Sparta, IL, where Robert was employed by World Color Press. Doris was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Sparta. She was very active in her church community serving in various roles: floral arranging, soundboard, kitchen committee, funeral dinner committee, vacation bible school, and landscaping. Doris held serval jobs over the years: Floral Designer and Wedding Coordinator at Sparta Greenhouse, Dining Room Manager at Spartan House Restaurant, Manager at Sonic, and Receptionist at H&R Block in Chester.
Doris enjoyed volunteering on the Sparta Hospital Auxiliary, gardening, antiquing, bird watching, and dancing. She loved accompanying her husband, Bob, to dances where he played guitar in numerous bands throughout their marriage. Doris was a devoted wife, loving mother, and doting grandmother. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Doris is survived by her daughters: Karla (Jim) Fillinger and Sheila (Dale) Schaefer; her grandchildren: Jamie (Brian) Eiswerth, James (Tamara) Fillinger, Kaylee (Craig) Schaefer-Stewart, Lindsay (Nick) Schaefer-Rothweiler; her great grandchildren: Margaret Eiswerth, Dakota, Dylan, Callie and Tessa Fillinger; her brother, Raymond Creason (Gloria) of Dixon, MO, her nephews, Dan and Troy (Joy) Creason, and her niece, Jennifer Garner.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Delbert Creason, her husband, Robert "Bob" Arnold and a great grandson, Gavin Eiswerth.
Funeral services will be held Friday, March 21, 2025, at 3:00 pm, at Wilson's Funeral Home, Steeleville, IL, with James L. Fillinger officiating. Interment to follow at Caledonia Cemetery, Sparta, IL. Visitation will be Friday afternoon, where friends may call from 1:00 until time of service at the funeral home. Donations in Doris's memory can be made to Sparta First United Methodist Church and can be mailed to Wilson's Funeral Home, P.O. Box 217, Steeleville, IL 62288.
