CARBONDALE – Donna JoAnn Rice, 84, formerly of Steeleville, IL, passed away on Monday, June 10, 2024, at Memorial Hospital, Carbondale, Illinois.

Donna was born on August 24, 1939, in Bremen, IL, the daughter of Wilburn and Nora (Bierman) Schnoeker. She married Charles Dale Rice on February 8, 1958, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Steeleville, IL. He preceded her in death on February 29, 2024. Donna was a homemaker. She cooked at St. Mark's School and Steeleville Senior Center for several years. Donna was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Steeleville, IL. She was an avid SIU athletics fan, loved fishing, camping, and spending time with family and friends.

Donna is survived by her children: Scott (Bridget) Rice of Makanda, IL, Stacy (Jesse) Longoria of Ocala, FL, Sherri Rice of Burke, VA; her grandchildren: Jessica (Thomas) Schmelzel, Clinton (Kelsey) Rice, Willow Longoria, Chloe Longoria, Isabella Longoria, Sophia McCullers; and her great grandchildren: Lydia, Grant, Isaac, Lucy, Maggie, William and Nora.

Donna was also preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Leland and Dale, sisters, E. Jean Schroeder, and Arlene Lampe.

Funeral services will be on Thursday, June 13, 2024, at 11:00 am, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Steeleville, IL, with Rev. Mark Harriss officiating. Burial to follow at Paradise Cemetery, Steeleville, IL. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, where friends may call from 6:00 – 8:00 pm, and then on Thursday, from 9:00 till time of service.
