STEELEVILLE – Donald Ray Young, 74, passed away on Thursday, February 22, 2024, at his home in Steeleville, Illinois.

Don was born on August 28, 1949, in Christopher, IL, the son of Homer L. and Gladys (Wynn) Young. He married Sue Ann Gardner on May 18, 1973, in Percy, IL. Don was the former owner of E-Z Electric in Percy, IL. He was a member of the Steeleville Fraternal Order of Eagles #3960 Aerie, Alma Lodge #497, and IBEW Local 702. Don was a 1967 graduate of Trico High School and a member of the 1967 basketball team that won the first regional title in school history. He was inducted into the Trico High School Athletic Hall of Fame on February 8, 2020.

Don is survived by his wife, Sue Young of Steeleville, IL, his children: Cale Young (Tara Chadderton) of Steeleville, IL, Cole (Missy) Young of Steeleville, IL, Corey (Chrissy) Young of Huntley, IL; his grandchildren: Connor Ray, Addilyn Grace, Olivia Jeanne, and Raelyn Jane.  Other survivors include his sister, Gloria (Dwayne) Miller of Alamo, TX, his brothers: Jerry (Jackie) Young of Percy, IL, Brad (Marty) Young of Cutler, IL; his sister-in-law Mary Rosendohl of Percy, IL, and many nieces, nephews and many, many friends.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, a grandson, Owen Dennis Young, and a brother-in-law Glenn Brandhorst.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, March 2, 2024, from 4:00 – 6:00 PM, at Wilson's Funeral Home, Steeleville, IL. Memorials may be given to Randolph County Humane Society, c/o Wilson's Funeral Home, PO Box 217, Steeleville, IL, 62288.
