CARBONDALE – Donald W. Schatte, 63, formerly of Steeleville, IL, passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at his home in Carbondale, Illinois.

Donald was born on December 27, 1961, in Sparta, IL, the son of Howard and Mary (Freytag) Schatte. Donald formerly worked at Gilster Mary Lee, Steeleville, IL and at various jobs in the Carbondale, IL, area. He was of the Lutheran faith. Donald attended SIU-C and John A. Logan College and volunteered at the Carbondale Senior Site. He enjoyed his garden, raising various flowers, fruits, and vegetables.

Donald is survived by his mother and stepfather, Larry and Mary Wegener of Steeleville, IL, his siblings: Gerry (Beth) Schatte of Fetus, MO, Linda Bayles of Spanish Fork, UT, Dennis (Debra) Schatte of Colorado Springs, CO; and his 5 nieces and 4 nephews.

Donald's father, Howard Schatte, preceded him in death on October 16, 1974.

A private graveside service will be held at a later date at Mill Creek Cemetery, Chester, IL. Memorials may be given to Carbondale Senior Site Food Pantry or Randolph County Humane Society and can be mailed to Wilson's Funeral Home, P.O. Box 217, Steeleville, IL 62288.
