URBANA, Donald L. Eaton, 85, of Urbana, formerly of Steeleville, passed away at 7:00 P.M. Sunday, March 20, 2011, at his home in Urbana, IL. Donald was born September 22, 1925 in Cutler, Illinois the son of William Earl. Eaton and Rella (Rednour) Eaton. He was baptized and confirmed at Peace Lutheran Church in Steeleville, IL. Donald married Val Jean Mines on November 1, 1947. Mr. Eaton served in the U.S. Army/Air Force during 1946-1947. He was an active member of Peace Lutheran Church where in past years he taught Sunday School and served on the church council. In his younger years, he was also active in Boy Scouts and served on the Steeleville School's Board of Education. Mr. Eaton was a member of the UMWA Local #1392, Steeleville American Legion B.B.K. Post #480, and the Chester VFW Post #3553. Don started coal mining with his father at a young age and eventually retired from Captain Coal Mine in 1987. He was always there for his family and enjoyed helping his friends and neighbors. He is survived by his wife Val Jean of Urbana, IL; two sons: Stephen and Donna Eaton of Sparta, IL and David and Judy Eaton of Steeleville, IL; one daughter: Cynthia and Todd Goetting of St. Joseph, IL; 7 grandchildren: Christopher (Bambi) Eaton, Nathan Eaton, Stephanie (Andy) Rains, Jamie (Jeremy) Pierce, Sherri (Gary) Buch, Mitchell Goetting and Megan (Mark) Wertz; and 9 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, and one brother. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 24, 2011 at 10:00 A.M. at Peace Lutheran Church in Steeleville. Rev. S. Blake Duncan will be officiating. Burial will be at Peace Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 5 to 8 pm and then on Thursday from 7:30am until the hour of service at Peace Lutheran Church. The preferred form of remembrance is to Peace Lutheran Church. Arrangements are under the auspices of Wilson's Funeral Home, Steeleville.
