MURPHYSBORO, Donald E. (Duck) Carter,82, departed this earth on December 16, 2013 as Don himself quoted to walk the golden streets and fish the crystal rivers. Donald was born on November 27, 1931 in Jacob, IL to Coleman and Lura (Jarrett) Carter. He married JoAnn Vaught of Murphysboro on July 9, 1950, she survives. Don was a coast to coast driver for Gooseneck Trailer Manufacturers based out of Bryan, Texas and later retired from Cal-Crest Outerwear of Murphysboro. Don was also known for his small engine repair work done from his garage where he brewed a lot of coffee and big fish stories with his neighbors and buddies. He was a member of Pate Chapel Baptist Church of Murphysboro. He enjoyed hunting, gardening and was an avid fisherman. He adored his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was his happiest when the entire family was gathered around him. Don loved the Lord and ministered to the sick at the Rehab and Care Center where he resided in his later years. His family extended much further than being related by blood. He was a father, brother and a son to many. Other survivors include: Two sons, David Carter and Jeff and Judy Carter; Two daughters, Donna and Fred Davis and Jennifer and William Wyatt, all of Murphysboro. Seven grandchildren, William LePere and friend, Elizabeth Munch, Jessica (Gary) Piquard, Justin Carter and friend, Brittney Presley, Jackie Carter and fiance' Jason Murphy, Christin King, Jake Carter and Cameron King, all of Murphysboro, Five great grandchildren, Troy LePere, Gary Piquard III, Reaghan Danielle Piquard, Lilly Carter and Victoria LePere, all of Murphysboro; Two sisters, Ruby (George) Knight of Carmi, IL and Evelyn McBride of Bellevedere, IL and one sister in law, Ruth Verbal of Murphysboro and all of his sons and daughters of Rehab and Care of Jackson County. A special thanks to our dear friend, Loretta Bailey. Preceding him in death are his parents, two brothers, Laverne and Charles Carter and one life long buddy, Mel Shemonia. Funeral services for Donald will be at 11:00am on Friday, December 20, 2013 at the Wilson's Funeral Home in Ava with Pastor Rick McNeely and Rev. George Knight officiating. Burial will follow at Murdale Garden of Memory in Murphysboro. Visitation will be at the Wilson's Funeral Home in Ava where friends may call from 5 to 8 PM Thursday and on Friday from 7:30 to 11am. Memorials may be made to St. Francis Animal Rescue, Murphysboro.
