AVA - Dolores M. Gordon, 83, passed away at 11:37 pm, Tuesday, February 15, 2011, at the Memorial Hospital in Carbondale. Dolores was born September 22, 1927 in St. Charles, MO, the daughter of Peter V. and Ina M. Alheim McCoy. She married James Taylor Gordon on October 31, 1943 in Perryville, MO. After 51 years of marriage, he passed away June 2, 1995. Dolores was a homemaker and was a member of the Ava Missionary Baptist Church in Ava, IL. Dolores is survived by her children, Rick (Viv) Gordon of Ava and Kathy (Brad) Bruns of Ava; grandchildren, Helo Hewerdine, Wade Hewerdine, Lori Compton, Travis Gordon, Nicki Hoppe, Chayla Brown, Carissa Gordon, Katie Gordon, Taylor Bruns and Cody Gordon; 14 great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandson and one sister, Wanda in California. Dolores was also preceded in death by her parents; One Son, Gary Gordon, Sr.; One Daughter: Phyllis Hewerdine; One Grandson, Gary "Bud" Gordon, Jr.; and one brother. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, February 19, 2011 at the Wilson's Funeral Home in Ava with Rev. Kent Eaton officiating. Burial will follow in Ava Evergreen Cemetery, Ava, IL. Visitation will be at Wilson's Funeral Home, Ava, where friends may call from 5 to 8 pm Friday and on Saturday from 7:30 am until the hour of service. Memorials may be given to Susan G. Komen for the Cure of breast cancer.
