Obituary

SPARTA – Dennis E. “Snoopy” Schnoeker, 78, of Sparta, IL, passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at Sherbrooke Village in St. Louis, Missouri.

Dennis was born November 15, 1947, in Murphysboro, IL, to Earl J. and Betty L. (Bollmann) Schnoeker. Dennis was a retired Transportation Officer at Chester Mental Health Center. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Vietnam conflict. Dennis was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, Steeleville, IL, B.B.K. American Legion Post #480, Steeleville, IL and the Kaskaskia V.F.W. Post #3553, Chester, IL.

Dennis is survived by his son, Derek E. (Erin) Schnoeker of Steeleville, IL, his sisters: Sharon E. (Joe) Dearing of Las Cruces, NM, and Sandra J. (Dale) Hostetler Clasen of Maryville, IL; his brother, Dean A. (Sandy) Schnoeker of Sparta, IL, his grandchildren: Dylan C. (Gwen Chambers) Linders of Percy, IL, Savannah N. Schnoeker of Steeleville, IL, Charles D.E. Schnoeker of Steeleville, IL; and his great granddaughter, Mazikeen E.G. Linders of Percy, IL.

Dennis was preceded in death by his son, Dennis E. Schnoeker Jr, his grandparents: Edmund and Ida (Sickmeyer) Schnoeker and Clemens and Marina (Eggemeyer) Bollmann; his parents, and his brother-in-law, Jerry C. Hostetler.

Memorial services will be held on Friday, May 22, 2026, 7:00 pm, at Wilson’s Funeral Home, Steeleville, IL, with Rev. Kenneth Tegtmeier officiating. Visitation will be Friday evening, May 22, 2026, where friends may call from 5:00 pm until time of service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Honor Flight of Southern Illinois and can be mailed to Wilson’s Funeral Home, P.O. Box 217, Steeleville, IL 62288.
