STEELEVILLE – Delmar Dale Eggemeyer died suddenly on March 13, 2022, at the age of 87 years old. He was the youngest child of Rudolph and Ida Eggemeyer and was born on a farm in Steeleville, IL, on March 6, 1935. Delmar is preceded in death by his mother, Ida (Kranz), father, Rudolph, two sisters, Florence (Eggemeyer) Knop and Bernice (Eggemeyer) Bockhorn, two older siblings who died at birth, and former wife, Rita. He is survived by one stepdaughter, Ruth (Larson) Emmons, two grandsons, Joshua & Jody Coyle, and three great grandchildren, Makenzie, Logan, and Harper Coyle, in the Aurora area, two nieces, Ethel (Knop) Sly and Mary (Knop) Davidson in Decatur, IL, a nephew, Doug Bockhorn in Sparta, IL, and Diane (Bockhorn) Esala in Steeleville, IL.
Delmar was drafted into the Army in 1957 and spent two years in Germany working in the motor pool. He was a Private E1, a decorated rifle sharpshooter, and was awarded a Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged from the Army Reserves in September 1963. After completing his active service duty with Army in 1959, Delmar moved to Aurora, IL, and worked at Thor Tool and Knox Trucking before opening his own business offering tow truck services, transmission, and general auto repair and eventually a salvage yard in 1970. He met and married Rita (Bodie) Larson while in Aurora and they were married 32 years.
Delmar moved back to his hometown of Steeleville, IL, in 2008 to retire after selling his business. Not one to sit idle for too long, he kept himself busy working with his nephew, Doug Bockhorn, to build up Bockhorn Salvage, a new salvage yard. In later years, he repaired and refurbished old farm machinery for Jerry Zacheis.
