MURPHYSBORO - Debra McClure Gossage, 54, of Murphysboro, passed away at 2:55 am, Saturday, June 15, 2013 in Ava, IL. Debra was born in Murphysboro on January 20, 1959, the daughter of Vernon and Minnie Johnson McClure. She worked for Jackson County Sheriff from 1992 to 1998 as a deputy/jailer officer, then was a rural mail carrier out of Carbondale from 1996-2010. Debra is survived by one daughter, Melinda Herbert of Murphysboro; one son, Jason W. Putz of Norris City, IL; six grandchildren, Brooklin Sands, Olivia Sands, Trae Herbert, Trace Herbert, Joshua William Thomas Putz and Mackenzie Devra Jean Putz; mother, Minnie McClure of Murphysboro; brother, Vernon L. McClure of Sparta; sisters, Vernae Jones of Ava and Sherry Wendling of Murphysboro; and three step children, David Gossage, Jamie Gossage and Matthew Gossage. Debra was preceded in death by her Father and William Putz, the father of Melinda and Jason. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at the Wilson's Funeral Home in Ava with Rev. Charles Nehring officiating. Burial will follow in Ava Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be at Wilson's Funeral Home, Ava, where friends may call from 5 to 8 pm Monday and on Tuesday from 7:30 am until 11:00 am. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.
