SPARTA – David L. Stine Sr., 71, of Sparta, Illinois passed away at 6:26 am, Sunday, August 16, 2020 at his home in Sparta, Illinois.

David was born in St. Elmo, Illinois on March 19, 1949, the son of Conrad and Bertha (Morgan) Stine.  He married Janice Davis on September 11, 1999 in Sparta, Illinois.  David was a retired police officer for the City of Sparta, Illinois.  He was a Marine Veteran having served during the Vietnam Conflict.  He was of the Protestant Faith and a member of the VFW Post #2698, Hope Lodge #162 AF & AM, both of Sparta, Illinois, BBK American Legion Post #480 of Steeleville, Illinois and the DAV.

David is survived by his wife, Janice (Davis) Stine of Sparta; children, David L. Stine Jr., Roger E. Stine, both of Sparta, Illinois, Stepson Marcus E. Davis of Ellis Grove, Illinois and Stepdaughter Amanda N. Sinnett of Evansville, Illinois.  Eleven grandchildren.  Brothers, Jerry (Connie) Stine of Vandalia, Illinois, Art Stine of Okawville, Illinois, Sisters, Glenna (Richard) Hagler of Altamont, Illinois and Juanita Workman of Vandalia, Illinois.

Due to COVID19, Phase 4 guidelines will be in effect, using social distancing and face masks. Private services will be held Friday, August 21, 2020 at Wilson's Funeral Home, Steeleville with Officiant Tom Ashley officiating.  Burial will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Missouri.  The preferred form of remembrance are memorials to Heartland Hospice or Hope Lodge (Siteman Cancer Center).
