SPARTA – David A. Nicholson, 81, of Sparta, passed away on Saturday, January 8, 2022, at Coulterville Care Center, Coulterville, Illinois.

David was born in Millisburg, Indiana, on July 19, 1940, the son of Clarence A. and Clata Taylor Nicholson.  He married Margaret Bergfeld Willingham on June 23, 1984 in Sparta, Illinois.  He was a retired Superintendent from Captain Coal Mines.  David was a Deacon of First Baptist Church, Percy, Illinois.

David is survived by his wife, Margaret Nicholson of Sparta; sons, David Alan Nicholson of Indianapolis, IN, Jeremy (Shannon) Nicholson of Brownsburg, IN, Eric (Tammie) Willingham of Caseyville, IL, and Alan (Sharilyn) Willingham of Belleville, IL; 9 grandchildren; son-in-law, Neil Schoeneberg of Edwardsville, IL; brother, Mel (Ethel) Nicholson of Booneville, IN; and sister, Linda Haverty of Albuquerque, NM.

David was preceded in death by his Parents; one daughter, Vicky Willingham-Schoeneberg; and two brothers, Dale and Alan Nicholson.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 15, 2022, at 4:00 pm, at Wilson's Funeral Home, Steeleville, with Rev. Terry Jackson officiating.  Burial will be at a later date at Caledonia Cemetery, Sparta.  Visitation will be at Wilson's Funeral Home, Saturday, from 2 pm until 4 pm.  Memorials may be given to First Baptist Church, Percy.  To sign the guestbook visit www.wilsonsfuneralhome.net .
