AVA – Daniel (Danny) Dean Maynor, 76, of Ava, IL, died April 28, 2022, at his home.
Danny was born January 29, 1946, in Murphysboro, IL, to William and Lourine (Comte) Maynor. He married Sandra Gale on April 15, 1967. They just celebrated their 55 th Wedding Anniversary. Danny and Sandra have three children: Tanna (Don) Schablowsky of Waterloo, Angela (Raymond) Lynch of Cahokia, and Christopher (Chelsea) Maynor of Murphysboro; eight grandchildren: Ryan Maynor, Hailey (Derek) Schablowsky, Nicholas (Elizabeth) Schablowsky, Sydney Maynor, Reese Giacomo, Maci, Austyn, and Lane Maynor; two great grandchildren: Felicity Maynor, Makaio Schablowsky, and another great granddaughter due in November.
Danny grew up in Murphysboro and was a 1964 graduate of Murphysboro Township High School. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Army as an Airborne/Paratrooper, where he was stationed at Fort Bragg, NC and Fort Campbell, KY. After his time in service, he worked for the GM&O, Illinois Central Gulf, and Canadian National Railroad for 42 years. He retired in 2006. Danny was a member of the Knights of Columbus and American Legion Post #1096, Campbell Hill.
Danny came from a relatively small family. He had 10 brothers and 5 sisters; Bill, Loretta, Jim, Mary, Roy, Richard, Charles, Glenn, Phyllis, Rosalie, Glorie, Jackie, Mike, Steve, and Frank; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Danny loved his wife and family. He spent his spare time deer hunting, camping/traveling, and his large garden. He especially loved spending time with his grandkids and spoiling them.
Visitation will held Sunday, May 1, 2022, at Wilson's Funeral Home, Ava, IL, where family and friends may call from 5:00 – 8:00 pm.
A funeral mass will begin at 10:00 am, May 2, 2022, at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Raddle, IL, with Msgr. Daniel J. Jurek officiating. Graveside services will immediately follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Ava, IL. Memorials may be given to Masses or WeeCare and can be mailed to Wilson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 277, Ava, IL 62907.
