CAMPBELL HILL - Clara Thies, 96, of Campbell Hill, passed away at 10:30 pm, Thursday, August 7, 2014 at the Freeburg Care Center in Freeburg, Illinois. Clara was born in Carolton, Nebraska, on September 12, 1917, the daughter of Herman and Bertha Werner Elting. She married Norman Thies on January 29, 1944 in Piggott, Arkansas. He preceded her in death on August 8, 1976. Clara was a Homemaker and was a member of the St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Campbell Hill. Clara is survived by three sons, Donald Thies of Ava, Robert Thies of Ava and Paul Thies of Coulterville, IL; four daughters, Joyce Thies of Campbell Hill, Faye Seger of Belleville, Doris Bittle of Freeburg, IL and Vera Pugh of O'Fallon, IL; 17 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and one brother, Roy Elting of Carterville, IL. Clara was also preceded in death by her Parents; One Son: James Thies; two brothers, Erich Elting and Art Elting; and two sisters, Ida Troue and Velma Woodall. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm, Sunday, August 10, 2014 at the St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Campbell Hill with Rev. Matt Kamprath officiating. Burial will follow in St. Luke's Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be at Wilson's Funeral Home, Ava, where friends may call from 5 pm until 8 pm Saturday and on Sunday from 1 pm until 2 pm at the church. Memorials may be given to St. Luke's Lutheran Cemetery Maintenance Fund.
