SPARTA, Charley R. Thompson, 79, of Sparta, passed away at 4:25 A.M. Wednesday, December 10, 2008, at Sparta Community Hospital in Sparta, IL. Charley was born October 08, 1929 in Vergennes, Illinois the son of Cecil Thompson and Armeda (Pugh) Thompson. He married Dorothy L. Welty on February 14, 1974 at Willisville, IL. He was a retired Factory Laborer. He was an Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict and a member of the Baptist Faith. Charley is survived by his wife Dorothy L. Welty of Fairacre Nusing Home in DuQuoin, IL; two sons, Stephen Thompson and Kevin Thompson of DuQuoin, IL; three daughters; two stepsons, Dwayne Welty of Percy, IL, and Keith Welty of Sparta; three step daughters, Debra Welty of Steeleville, IL, Sally Clark of Murphysboro, IL and Marsha Abernathy of SanAntonio, TX; 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; two sisters, Pearl Yankey of Perryville, MO and Kay Casserilla of Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his Parents; One Step Son, Charles Welty; One Son, Victor Thompson; Three Brothers, Harold, Jesse and Cecil and One Grandson. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 12, 2008 at 1:00 P.M. at Wilson's Funeral Home in Steeleville with Rev. Wilbur Franklin, Sr. officiating. Burial will follow Percy Village Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Wilson's Funeral Home, Steeleville on Friday where friends may call from 10 am until 1 pm. Memorials may be made to Activity Fund at V.A. Hospital in Marion.
