Obituary

STEELEVILLE, Charles Harold Tiller, 87, of Steeleville, passed away at 1:30 PM Sunday, July 7, 2019, at the V.A. Medical Center in Marion, Illinois.  He was born June 13, 1932 in Littlefield, Texas the son of Benjamin and Lydia (Watkins) Tiller.  Harold married Ruth Jean Schroeder on June 26, 1954 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Chester.

Harold served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.  He participated in the Inaugural Flight of the Southern Illinois Veterans Honor Flight. He was retired from World Color Press, Inc, having worked in Sparta, Stillwater and Dyersburg.

Harold was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Steeleville, IL.  He was also a member of the BBK American Legion Post #480 in Steeleville, the Kaskaskia VFW Post #3553 in Chester, a Charter member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #3960, Steeleville and a retired member of the Steeleville Fire Department.

Harold is survived by his: wife, Ruth Jean Tiller, Steeleville, IL; children: Charles R. (Pamela) Tiller, Chester, Sharon (Greg) Vallett, Steeleville, and Jeri (Burt) Chandler, Newbern, TN; Grandchildren: Jason (Celine) Vallett, Julie (Joe) Wickwire, Benjamin (Rachael) Tiller and Emma and Ellie Chandler; Great Grandchildren:  Daisy and Colin Vallett and Jace Owen Wickwire.  He is also survived by brothers:  Warren (Sarah) Tiller, Danville, IL and Bobby (Zibby) Tiller, Greenwood, LA; sisters:  Ruth (Ralph) Johnson, Chester, Bonnie Davison, Garden City, MO and Joni (Roy) Davison, Kansas City, MO.

Harold is preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, Carl, Lloyd and Archie and 1 sister, Ethel Duncan.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 11, 2019 at 11:00 am at Wilson's Funeral Home Steeleville, Illinois with Minister Deb Rathert officiating. Burial will follow at Paradise Cemetery in Steeleville.  Visitation will be at Wilson's Funeral Home, Steeleville, on Wednesday from 5:00 to 8:00 pm and on Thursday from 7:30 am till hour of service.  Memorials may be made to St. Mark's School or Southern Illinois Honor Flight.
