AVA, Charles Edward Phelps, 80, of Ava, passed away at 9:31 PM Tuesday, November 19, 2013, at Chester Rehab and Nursing Center in Chester, Illinois. He was born August 4, 1933 in Jackson County, Illinois the son of William Benjamin and Minnie E. (Saul) Phelps. Charles was married to Doris A. Beshears and Glenda Lemmerman. Both preceded him in death. Charles was a retired carpenter. He was a member of Crain Baptist Church in Ava and the Carpenter Union in Belleville, IL. He is survived by his: daughter: Pamela Roberts, Chester, IL; 2 granddaughters: Jayme Roberts and Rachel Sheely, both of Chester; Step-daughter: Lisa (Albert) Keener; 2 Step-grandsons: Brad Eggemeyer and Carl (Amy) Eggemeyer and 4 Step-Great Grandsons: James Maes, Ally Ethan and Kari Eggemeyer. He is also survived by 3 sisters: Clara Broadway, Murphysboro, IL; Emma Holderfield, Johnson City, IL and Myrtle Phelps, Benicia, California. Charles is preceded in death by his parents, wives, 1 daughter, Kathy Sheely, 2 sisters, 5 brothers and 2 grandchildren, Adam & Bradley Sheely. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 25, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Wilson's Funeral Home Ava, Illinois with Rev. Tim Olson officiating. Burial will follow at Glenn Cemetery, Jacob, IL. Visitation will be at Wilson's Funeral Home on Sunday where friends may call from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Monday from 7:30 to 11AM. Memorials may be made to Glenn Cemetery or Chester Rehab and Nursing Center.
