PERCY - Charles D. "Hard Luck" Newton, Sr. 70, of Percy went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 13, 2012 at the St. Louis University Hospital. Charles was born in East St. Louis, IL on March 25, 1942, the son of Wesley and Ellen Bartlett Newton. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, where he remained in the states. He retired from Swift Agricultural Chemical Company in Fairmont City, IL and moved to the Ava and Percy areas as a carpet layer and construction laborer. Charles was of the Pentecostal Faith. Charles is survived by his mother, Ellen Newton of Ava; four sons and two daughters-in-law, Charles "Sonny", Jr. and Deana Newton of Percy, Brian Newton of Percy, Jeremy Newton of Percy and Jimmy and Rhonda Newton of Pinckneyville; grandchildren, Charles "C.J." III, Austin, Brittany, Scott, Dustin, Jamie, Madison and Sara Newton; two brothers and two sisters-in-law, Jerry and Theresa Newton of Ava, Gilbert Newton of Ava, and Rena Newton of Ava; one sister and brother-in-law,Sandy (Denny) Beshears of Ava; a special friend, Brenda James of Pinckneyville; one foster daughter and son-in-law, Vicki and Tracy Heiman of Ava; and four foster grandchildren. Charles also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles whom he loved and they will miss him. He always made them laugh. Charles was preceded in death by his father, Wesley and one brother, Jack. Funeral service will be held at 1:30 pm, Monday, July 16, 2012 at the Wilson's Funeral Home in Ava with Rev. and Mrs. Wilson McWherter officiating. Burial will follow in Ava Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be at Wilson's Funeral Home, Ava, where friends may call from 5 to 8 pm Sunday and on Monday from 7:30 am until the hour of service. Memorials may be given to a love fund for the Family.
