STEELEVILLE, Charles R. "Preach" Heller, 87, of Carbondale, formerly of Steeleville, IL, passed away at 8:36 AM Friday, February 14, 2014, at Rehab and Care Center in Murphysboro, Illinois. He was born February 4, 1927 in Hardin, Illinois the son of John W. and Rose (Bork) Heller. Charles married Wilma Chadderton on October 1, 1948 in Steeleville, IL. Wilma passed away on December 11, 2010. Charles was retired from Captain Mines as an oiler. He served in the US Army during WWII. He was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Steeleville, the B.B.K. American Legion Post #480 in Steeleville, the Kaskaskia VFW Post #3553 in Chester and the U.M.W. of A. Local 1392. He is survived by his: daughter and son-in-law: Rose A and Irv Cartwright, Elkville, IL; Step Grandchildren: Kimberly & Brad Richards of Jasper, AL and Kevin Cartwright of Ava, IL; 6 Step Great Grandchildren and 1 Step Great Great Grandchld. Charles is preceded in death by his parents, wife, 2 brothers, John Heller and Eugene Heller. Funeral services will be held Monday, February 17, 2014 at 11:00 AM at St. Mark's Lutheran Church Steeleville, with Rev. Joe Hoem and Rev. Dr. Alan W. Janneke officiating. Burial will follow at Paradise Cemetery, Steeleville. Visitation will be at Wilson's Funeral Home, Steeleville, where friends may call on Sunday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and on Monday from 7:30 to 9am, then 10 to 11am at the church. Memorials may be made to St. Mark's Church (School Roof Fund) .
