STEELEVILLE – Catherine "Katie" Rieckenberg, 85, of Steeleville, passed away Sunday, January 16, 2022, at Cedar Hurst Assisted Living, Sparta, IL.

Katie was born April 23, 1936, in Percy, IL, to William and Edna Meyerhoff Rabe. She married Ardell Rieckenberg on July 8, 1955, at Peace Lutheran Church, Steeleville. Katie was retired from the Research and Development Lab at Gilster Mary-Lee Corporation. She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Wine Hill, and E.L.C.W. of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Wine Hill. Katie was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, taking great pride in her family and church.  Katie was a lifelong Lutheran and very active in church and various church activities. She also was an avid card player.

Katie is survived by her husband, Ardell Rieckenberg of Steeleville, IL, son, Dan (Ladene) Rieckenberg of Steeleville, IL, daughter, Deb (Sid) Rathert of Ava, IL, grandchildren: Michele & Seth Cross, Alison & Darrick Knop, Abby & Tyler Woods, Mary & Scott Walter, Justin Rieckenberg, Lindsay & Matt Thies, Matt Rieckenberg; and eight great grandchildren.

Katie is preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, two brothers, one great grandson, and a son-in-law, Gary Schroeder.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, January 19, 2022, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Wine Hill, with Officiant Michael Foppe officiating. Burial to follow at St. Peter's Cemetery, Wine Hill. Visitation will be at Wilson's Funeral Home, Steeleville, where friends may call from 5 - 7 pm, Tuesday, 7:30 – 9 am, Wednesday, and 10 - 11 am, Wednesday, at the church. Memorials may be given to St. Peter's Cemetery Fund or The Alzheimer's Association and can be mailed to Wilson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 217, Steeleville, IL 62288.
