AVA – Cassandra "Kasey" Doerner, 40, of Ava, formerly of Murphysboro, passed away on Thursday, December 17, 2020 in Ava.

Cassandra was born in Murphysboro, on August 21, 1980, the daughter of David Walter and Carolyn Lee Miller Shewmaker.  She was a small Business Owner, Founder of the Turquoise Door in Ava, and a former Country Insurance Agent.  Kasey was a member of Berean Christian Church, Murphysboro; Murphysboro Chamber of Commerce; Former PTO President at Trico Elementary and Former Member of All for Ava.  Kasey was instrumental in "Bringing Back Main Street" in Ava.  She graduated from Murphysboro High School in 1998 and she graduated from SIU in December of 2001 with a Bachelor's Degree in Education.

Kasey is survived by three sons, Grant Doerner of Murphysboro, Jackson Doerner of Ava, and Ty Doerner of Ava; the Father of her children, Chris Doerner of Ava; Parents, David and Carolyn Shewmaker of Murphysboro; Sister, Amanda Shewmaker of Murphysboro; Niece, Mallory Shewmaker; and numerous Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, and friends who were like Family.

Kasey was preceded in death her grandparents, Walter and Irene Shewmaker and Cletus and Ethel Miller.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.  Memorials may be given to an Educational Fund for her boys, and can be mailed to, Wilson's Funeral Home, PO Box 277, Ava, IL 62907.
