IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Carl "Colly"
Donald Karg
April 10, 1929 – April 11, 2024
GORHAM – Carl Donald "Colly" Karg, 95, of Gorham, passed away at 8:02 am, Thursday, April 11, 2024, at Manor Court in Carbondale.
Carl "Colly" was born in Lively Grove Township on April 10, 1929, the son of Carl and Frances Shubert Karg. Carl was baptized and confirmed on March 8, 1964, in Trinity Lutheran Church in Nashville, Illinois. He married Mary Jane Weihe on August 15, 1964 in Nashville, Illinois. She preceded him in death.
Carl was given a "nickname" of Colly when his Dad would pronounce Carl in German and it would come out Colly. There are more people that knew him as Colly Karg, than his given name of Carl. He was a farmer all his life. Colly was a member of the Jackson County Farm Bureau, Mississippi Valley Soybean Club, served as a Commissioner of the Degognia and Fountain Bluff Levee and Drainage District for many years, including through the 1993 flood. Colly loved to farm, be on the farm and talk about farming. The phrase, "You Been Farming Long", suited him perfectly as the answer would be since a young boy. He served as a Usher at Christ Lutheran Church, Jacob, from the time he moved to the "Bottoms" and became a member of the church, until he was no longer able to serve.
"Colly" is survived by two sons, Michael (Amy) Karg of Murphysboro and Christian (Joyce Morgan) Karg of Ava; one daughter, Linda (Eric) Clendenin of Gorham; daughter-in-law, Theresa Karg of Gorham; grandchildren, Heather Karg, Carl Jeffrey Karg, Lauren (Kyle) Laing, Colin (Carolyn) Clendenin, Natalie (Garrett) Worthen, Nathaniel Carl (fiancée, Aubrey Hines) Clendenin, Ryan Karg, Erica Clendenin, and Livi Amelia Jane Karg; great grandchildren, Shakur, Molly, Carl Brantly, Carsyn, Maybree, Kyler, Calvyn, Carver, Angel and Zayden Karg, Mia and Grayton Michael Laing; sister, Frances "Sissy" Patton of Oakdale, IL; and several nieces and nephews.
Colly was also preceded in death by his Parents; son, Carl Kevin Karg; sister, Anna Green; brother, Frank Karg; brother, Norman Karg; and nephews, Ricky Karg, Terry Green and Gary Karg.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, April 15, 2024, at Christ Lutheran Church, Jacob with Rev. Gunnar Campbell officiating. Burial will follow at Coulterville City Cemetery, Coulterville, Illinois. Visitation will be at Christ Lutheran Church, Monday from 8:30 am until 11:00 am.
