AVA - Calvin Dale Ethington Sr., 83, of Ava, passed away Monday, June 4, 2018, at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Ethington, whom he married in Hernando, Miss., in 1954. He was born Nov., 19, 1934, the son of Richard Calvin Ethington and Alberta (Luthy) Ethington.
Mr. Ethington was employed at Granite City Steel for many years and was a member of Steel Workers Union #1030. He also owned and operated West Side Garage in Glen Carbon, IL., 111 Auto Parts, Granite City, and Twin Oaks Campground at Lake Kincaid in Ava, Ill., where he lived since 1991. He enjoyed attending auctions and collecting antiques, and family events.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three brothers, Richard Ethington of Granite City, Roy Ethington of Manassas, Va., Glenn D. Ethington, Jefferson City, Ill., one sister, Alice Gibson, of Granite City, Ill., one daughter-in-law, Sandra Ethington Shipp, five grandchildren, 12 great- grandchildren and two great great grandchidren.
He was proceeded in death, by his parents, three sons, Calvin D. Ethington, Jr.; Richard A. Ethington, and Donald V. Ethington, one brother, Carl David E. Ethington, one grandchild, and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 10 AM, Saturday, June 9, 2018, at the Wilson's Funeral Home in Ava with Rev. Robert Boyett officiating, burial will follow at the Ava Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday evening at the funeral home where friends may call from 6 to 8 PM, and then on Saturday from 7:30 to 10 AM. Memorials may be made to the Ava Missionary Baptist Church or the American Cancer Society.
