MURPHYSBORO – Betty Joann (Smith) Compton, passed away on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at her home in Murphysboro, IL.

Betty was born on June 29, 1973, in Pinckneyville, IL, to Melvin W. and Alice (Dunn) Smith. She married Michael Compton on August 27, 2004, he survives. Betty was a CNA and a member of First Baptist Church, Cutler, IL. She was a loving mother, wife, and grandma. Betty loved fishing, camping, bingo and her grandson.

Betty is survived by her mother, Alice Smith of Cutler, IL, her husband, Michael Compton of Murphysboro, IL, her children: Tonya (Nick) Rhodes of Alton, IL, Trevor Smith of Murphysboro, IL; her grandson, Jaxxon Rhodes, her siblings: Georgia Wilson, Michele Moon, Marie (Greg) Reynolds, Clinton (Georgia) Smith, Jackie Hughes, Derrick (Sandy) Smith, Dawn (Lanny) Wilson; her brother-in-law, James Moon, and several nieces and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by her son, Curtis Compton, her father, Melvin Smith, her paternal grandparents, Reverend Albert (Ollie) Smith, her maternal grandparents, Reverend Harold (Georgia) Dunn, her brother-in-law, Ron Hughes, and sister-in-law, Hope Smith.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 29, 2026, 1:00 pm, at Wilson’s Funeral Home, Ava, IL, with Rev. Wes Henson officiating. Burial to follow at Ava Evergreen Cemetery, Ava, IL. Visitation will be Monday morning, June 29, 2026, where friends may call from 11:00 am, until time of service at the funeral home.
