AVA – Betty I. Austin, 86, of Ava, IL, passed away Sunday, August 14, 2022, at St. Joseph Memorial Hospital, Murphysboro, Illinois.

Betty was born July 1, 1936, in Ava, IL, to Willard and Lydia (Brunkhorst) Cross. She married Gene R. Austin on July 4, 1953, at Chester, IL. He passed away on June 16, 1981. Betty was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Campbell Hill, IL, and a homemaker.

Betty is survived by her children: Terry Austin of Benton, AR, Debbie (Larry) Shannon of Murphysboro, IL; grandchildren: Crystal and Doug; and her sister, Barbara Phoenix of Ava, IL.

Betty is also preceded in death by her parents, companion, Thomas White, daughter, Margaret, grandchild, Kimberly, and two brothers.
